Biotopo Marocche di Dro

Biotopo Marocche di Dro is a small protected natural area in the southern part of Trentino, in northern Italy. Established in 1989, it sits within the municipality of Dro in the autonomous province of Trento, occupying a compact territory that has been formally classified as a biotope under Italian and EU protected-area frameworks. The reserve is notable for protecting one of the most impressive postglacial landslide systems in Europe. The Marocche are an accumulation of rocky debris produced by ancient rockfalls and rock slides that detached from the surrounding cliffs, creating a chaotic landscape of boulders and dry stone terrain that stands apart from the more typical Alpine habitats found elsewhere in the region. Unlike most other biotopes in Trentino, which protect wetlands or lake margins, this site is officially classified as an arid area. The combination of unstable rocky substrate, thin soils, and limited water retention has produced a dry, sun-exposed environment that supports distinctive plant communities and a reptile-rich fauna unusual for an Alpine region.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
