Biotopo Prati di Monte

Biotopo Prati di Monte is a small protected natural area in the Trentino-Alto Adige region of northern Italy, in the municipality of Altavalle within the autonomous province of Trento. Established in 1994, the area covers roughly 600 hectares on the Dossone di Cembra, a porphyritic mountain ridge that separates the Val di Cembra from the Bassa Atesina lowlands further south. The biotope's defining feature is the Lago di Valda, a small glacial-origin alpine lake that has been largely transformed into a peat bog (torbiera). Because the lake basin had been heavily drained in earlier decades to convert the land into pasture, only a fragment of the open water remains today, with the surrounding wetland, acidic bog, and bog woodland now forming the heart of the protected area. The site is recognized as a Zona Speciale di Conservazione under European Union habitat law and shelters several alpine plant and animal species that are rare across the broader Alpine arc, giving the area an ecological importance that reaches well beyond its modest size.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
