Brackenbruch bei Hergershausen

Brackenbruch bei Hergershausen is a small nature reserve (Naturschutzgebiet) in the southern part of the German state of Hesse, located in the Darmstadt-Dieburg district near the town of Babenhausen. The reserve covers around 52 hectares of floodplain landscape in the Untermainebene natural region, where the small Lache stream flows northward before joining the Gersprenz river. The protected area is characterized by regularly flooded meadows, shallow standing waters, reed beds, wet fallow land, and adjoining forest patches. It was designated as a nature reserve in 1999 to preserve a characteristic floodplain mosaic that supports numerous threatened plant and animal species. Since 2008, the site has been embedded within the larger Natura 2000 network, both as part of the Untere Gersprenz FFH site and as a sub-area of the Untere Gersprenzaue EU Bird Directive site. Though modest in size, the reserve represents a typical example of the lowland floodplain habitats that once shaped the southern Hesse river valleys and still harbor a rich community of wetland-dependent species.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
