Dandenong Ranges National Park

Dandenong Ranges National Park is a protected area of tall, wet forests and rolling hill country located in the Greater Melbourne region of Victoria, Australia. The park sits approximately 31 to 45 kilometers east of Melbourne's central business district, spanning the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges that rise gently from the surrounding suburban landscape. Established in 1987 through the amalgamation of several earlier reserves including Ferntree Gully National Park, Sherbrooke Forest, and Doongalla Estate, the park protects a significant remnant of the forests that once covered much of this region before European settlement. The national park encompasses approximately 3,540 hectares of diverse terrain including steeply undulating ridges, deep gullies, and panoramic lookouts that offer sweeping views across Melbourne's eastern suburbs and beyond.
