Geegeela Conservation Park

Geegeela Conservation Park is a small protected area in the south-east of South Australia, situated in the locality of Bangham between Bordertown and Frances in the state's Limestone Coast region. The park covers just over eight square kilometres of former agricultural land that was progressively retired from grazing and cultivation and allowed to regenerate under native vegetation. The park's most distinctive environmental value lies in its mosaic of native vegetation types, which include desert banksia heath, blue gum and pink gum open woodland, and brown stringybark woodland interspersed with wetland patches. These habitats also support a recorded eighty-nine native bird species and several mammal species of state conservation significance, including the nationally endangered south-eastern red-tailed black cockatoo. Established in 2005 through the purchase of land with support from the Australian Government's Natural Heritage Trust, the park is managed for conservation rather than tourism and sees only minimal visitor use. Its significance is more ecological than scenic, serving as a refuge for native vegetation communities and threatened fauna in a rural landscape that has otherwise been heavily cleared for farming.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
