Khibiny National Park

Khibiny National Park protects a mountainous region of taiga and tundra on the Khibiny Mountains and Lovozero Massif of the western Kola Peninsula in northwestern Russia. Established in 2018, the park encompasses approximately 84,800 hectares of ecologically significant terrain where subarctic and boreal ecosystems converge. The mountains form a circular range about 40 kilometers across, surrounded by low plains and bordered by Lake Imandra to the west and Lake Umbozero to the east. The park's location at the northern edge of the Scandinavian and Russian taiga ecoregion places it only a few kilometers south of the transition to Kola Peninsula tundra, creating a unique blending zone of Arctic and boreal flora and fauna that supports remarkable biodiversity.
