Landschaftsschutzgebiet Arnsberg

Landschaftsschutzgebiet Arnsberg is a designated landscape protection area covering a large portion of the municipal territory of Arnsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The protected landscape sits in the Sauerland region and is characterized primarily by extensive forest cover with interspersed open areas on a generally hilly terrain. The area was first officially designated in 1998 under the Arnsberg landscape plan and was re-designated in 2021 with a significantly reduced footprint after several stricter nature reserves were newly established or expanded and portions of land had been developed. Today it comprises 219 separate sub-areas totaling roughly 5,796 hectares. Its purpose is to preserve a representative cross-section of the natural regions of the Sauerland, securing the visual character and ecological functions of the forested landscape while also buffering the surrounding nature reserves.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
