Meotyda National Nature Park

Meotyda National Nature Park protects a stretch of coastline, interior estuaries, and coastal lands along the northern edge of the Sea of Azov in southeastern Ukraine. The park was established in 2009 and encompasses diverse habitats including steppe, coastal plains, floodplain swamps, estuaries with variable salinity, spits, peninsulas, sandy-shell islands, dunes, and saline lakes. Located in Donetsk Oblast near the city of Mariupol, the park is named after the Maeotians, an ancient people who inhabited the Azov shores. The protected area serves as a critical corridor in the Azov-Black Sea coastal ecological network, supporting important populations of migratory waterfowl and over 100 species of nesting birds. However, the park's administrative functions have been disrupted by hostilities in the region since 2014, affecting conservation operations in some areas.
