Meziluží

Meziluží was a small protected natural area in the Královéhradecký Region of the Czech Republic, located about one kilometer northwest of the village of Meziluží in the Jičín District. The site sat within the Bohemian Paradise Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Český ráj) and covered a steep slope of an Upper Cretaceous sandstone valley, where a species-rich old orchard and pasture supported one of only two known populations of the strongly endangered early purple orchid in the entire protected landscape. The site was declared a national-level natural monument in 1997 by the administration of CHKO Český ráj. Protection was revoked in 2013, however, because the conservation target species had disappeared from the site. Despite its short period of formal protection and modest size, Meziluží is a meaningful example of small-scale habitat conservation in the Bohemian Paradise, illustrating both the value and the vulnerability of traditional orchard-pasture ecosystems. The story of Meziluží reflects a broader pattern in central European conservation, where very small sites of high botanical value are protected individually. Its establishment, the reintroduction efforts for Orchis morio in the late 1990s, and its eventual deregistration together offer a rare complete cycle of small-site protection history.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
