The Naturschutzgebiet Breiter Berg bei Haselstein is a protected nature reserve of roughly 182 hectares in the municipality of Nüsttal in the Fulda district of Hesse, Germany. It lies directly on the state border with Thuringia, between the villages of Haselstein and Oberaschenbach, in the natural region of the Westliches Rhönvorland (western Rhön foreland). The reserve encompasses several named elevations, including the Breiter Berg, the Kielkuppe, the Schweins-Berg, and the Kleine and Große Ganskuppe, shaping a varied landscape of forested slopes, small stream valleys, and marginal grassland patches. Most of the area is designated as a core zone within the Rhön Biosphere Reserve, and the entire reserve is contained within the larger EU Special Protection Area known as the Hessische Rhön, making it part of the Natura 2000 ecological network. Its formal protection as a Naturschutzgebiet was established in 1997, with expanded core-zone areas confirmed in 2013. Ecologically, the reserve is dominated by a rich mosaic of Central European beech forest communities, supplemented by oak-hornbeam stands, ash-mixed forests on moist slopes, alder-ash gallery forests along brooks, and small patches of coniferous and mixed plantations.
