Ostoja nad Bobrem

Ostoja nad Bobrem is a Natura 2000 Site of Community Importance (Special Area of Conservation) located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship of southwestern Poland. It stretches along the Bóbr River valley between Lwówek Śląski and Jelenia Góra, covering roughly fifteen thousand hectares of river corridor, hills, and adjoining slopes built from a varied mix of basalts, limestones, and sandstones. The site was originally proposed for the EU Natura 2000 network by the European Commission in 2009 and formally confirmed under Polish national protection in 2022. It is fundamentally a habitat-oriented protected area, designated to preserve natural habitats and species of European importance, including rare orchid-rich grasslands, slope forests, riparian woodlands, and bat colonies. Beyond its ecological role, the area functions as a vital ecological corridor connecting the wider Odra river system with the mountain ranges of Karkonosze and Rudawy Janowickie, supporting landscape connectivity across the Sudetes region. Its combination of geological diversity, riverine habitats, and proximity to heritage towns gives it both conservation and regional cultural significance.
