Réserve naturelle régionale des landes de Monteneuf

The Réserve naturelle régionale des landes de Monteneuf is a small protected area in Brittany, in western France, focused on the conservation of Atlantic heathland habitats. Established in 2013, it covers roughly 125 hectares in the Morbihan department, situated between the regional cities of Rennes and Vannes, on the eastern edge of the commune of Monteneuf. The reserve protects a mosaic of acidic, nutrient-poor landscapes: heather and gorse-dominated heathland, wet and dry moorland patches, small ponds, humid meadows, bracken stands, scattered woodland, and exposed rocky outcrops. The northern part of the reserve consists largely of mesophilic and humid heath, while the southern part includes the drier heath around the famous Pierres Droites megalithic alignments, Neolithic standing stones erected roughly five thousand years ago. Beyond its ecological role, the reserve is notable for combining natural heritage with the cultural heritage of the Brocéliande region. Heathland at Monteneuf has not existed in isolation: it emerged through Neolithic woodland clearance and was historically maintained as common land producing gorse, broom, heather, soft grasses, and willow for local communities. Today the reserve serves as both a biodiversity refuge and an interpretive landscape linking Breton nature, archaeology, and local identity.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
