Santa Rosa National Park

Santa Rosa National Park is a protected area in Guanacaste Province, northwestern Costa Rica, established in 1966. The park encompasses approximately 390 square kilometers of terrestrial land and 426 square kilometers of marine territory, making it one of the larger national parks in the country. It forms a critical component of the Area de Conservación Guanacaste World Heritage Site, a globally recognized conservation landscape that spans much of northern Guanacaste. The park's dual identity combines significant historical importance as the site of the Battle of Santa Rosa, where Costa Rican forces defeated filibuster William Walker in 1856, with remarkable ecological diversity spanning tropical dry forests, mangroves, savannas, and coastal ecosystems.
