Sierra de Lobos

Sierra de Lobos is a mountain range in Guanajuato state in central Mexico, rising north of the city of León. It forms part of the Sierra Central, a northwest-southeast belt of low mountains that separate the fertile Bajío plain to the south from the higher Mexican Plateau to the north. The range has been designated a protected natural area under Mexico's sustainable use category, conserving vegetation, wildlife, and the watersheds that supply the surrounding region. Ecologically, the Sierra contains a striking gradient of vegetation types from tropical dry forest and thorn scrub at lower elevations to pine-oak forests higher up. It supports a rich community of native mammals, birds, and reptiles, and plays an important role in supplying surface water and recharging groundwater for the densely populated Bajío region to the south. Beyond its ecological value, the Sierra de Lobos is regionally important for recreation and as a natural boundary between two of Mexico's most distinct physiographic zones. Its protected status reflects its combined role as habitat, watershed, and open space for the cities and agricultural lands that surround it.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
