Pulai River

Pulai River, known locally as Sungai Pulai, is a roughly 22-kilometer river in the state of Johor, Malaysia. It rises from Mount Pulai in Kulai District and flows westward to discharge into the Tebrau Straits near Tanjung Pelepas on the southwestern tip of the Malay Peninsula. At its mouth the river supports an extensive mangrove forest reserve and one of the most significant estuarine ecosystems in the country. The estuary is internationally recognized for its ecological value. The mouth of Pulai River shelters the single largest seagrass bed in Malaysia, an underwater meadow that extends outward to Pulau Merambong. Combined with the surrounding mangroves, the area forms a rich transitional zone between freshwater, brackish, and marine environments that sustains birds, fish, crustaceans, and a wide range of invertebrates. Since 2003, the site has been designated as a Ramsar wetland of international importance, placing it within a global network of protected wetlands. The site is actively studied by Malaysian researchers, including teams from University of Technology Malaysia and the National University of Malaysia, to support sustainable management of Johor's mangrove landscapes.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
