Tanjung Piai

Tanjung Piai is a low-lying mangrove-fringed cape on the southwestern tip of Peninsular Malaysia, in the Pontian District of Johor. Geographically it is famous as the southernmost point of mainland Eurasia, a fact celebrated on site by a large monument and visited by travelers who come to stand at the symbolic foot of the Asian continent. Ecologically, the cape protects one of Malaysia's most important remaining mangrove ecosystems, designated as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance in 2003. Its tidal channels, mudflats, and stands of mangrove trees support migratory birds, resident waterbirds, and crustaceans that sustain local fisheries. Beyond its natural value, Tanjung Piai blends conservation with low-key ecotourism. Wooden walkways thread through the mangroves, seafood restaurants perch on stilts above the tidal flats, and the skyline of Singapore is visible across the narrow Johor Strait. It is recognized as a priority national ecotourism destination and is one of only five Ramsar sites in Malaysia.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
