Tanjung Tuan

Tanjung Tuan is a forested coastal cape in the Alor Gajah District of Malacca, Malaysia, forming a semi-exclave of the state completely surrounded by Negeri Sembilan. The cape faces the Strait of Malacca and is defined by a rare surviving patch of lowland dipterocarp forest, mangrove-fringed shoreline, and a tree-covered ridge that drops to the sea. The area is anchored historically by the Cape Rachado Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in Malaysia still in continuous operation, originally built by the Portuguese between 1528 and 1529 to guide ships into port. The same stretch of water was the site of the 1606 naval Battle of Cape Rachado, an opening engagement in the long Dutch-Portuguese struggle for Malacca that ended only with the fall of Portuguese Malacca to the VOC in 1641. Today Tanjung Tuan is best known ecologically as a major raptor migration corridor and roosting site. Recognized by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area, the forest reserve is visited by large numbers of migratory raptors each year and remains an active site for conservation, recreation, and short coastal hiking.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
