Tarnobrzeska Dolina Wisły

Tarnobrzeska Dolina Wisły is a Polish Natura 2000 site that protects a roughly 45-kilometre stretch of the middle Vistula river valley, running from the mouth of the Wisłoka river near Gawłuszowice upstream to the historic town of Sandomierz, where the valley meets the Góry Pieprzowe hills. Designated in 2011 and covering about 4,060 hectares, the site crosses the administrative boundary between the Świętokrzyskie and Podkarpackie voivodeships, linking rural districts and the city of Tarnobrzeg along one of the most ecologically active floodplain corridors in the region. The protected area is defined by its riverine character: a lowland floodplain shaped by the Vistula, with backwaters, wet meadows, oxbow lakes, alluvial riparian forests, and actively shifting riverbanks. Floodplain forests cover roughly a quarter of the site, and rare habitat types under the EU Habitats Directive coexist here with a rich community of protected animal species. Its accessibility from Sandomierz and Tarnobrzeg has also made it a focal point for regional nature education, with a dedicated Natura 2000 promotion centre housed in the former Tarnowski estate buildings near the Dzików Palace in Tarnobrzeg.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
