Tierras del Ebro

Tierras del Ebro is a territorial and functional region in the southern part of Catalonia, Spain, organized around the lower course of the Ebro River. It brings together four comarcas, Bajo Ebro, Montsiá, Tierra Alta, and Ribera de Ebro, into a single cohesive landscape defined by the river, its delta, and the surrounding mountains. The region is best known for the Ebro Delta, one of the most important wetland habitats in the western Mediterranean, and for the Ports de Tortosa-Beseit massif, a wild limestone range that rises inland from the coast. Together, these contrasting environments give the territory an unusual ecological richness for such a compact area, supporting extensive rice paddies, coastal lagoons, riverbanks, Mediterranean forest, and high mountain woodland within the same territorial framework. On 28 May 2013, UNESCO designated most of Tierras del Ebro as a Biosphere Reserve, recognizing both its environmental value and the long-standing relationship between local communities and the landscape. Beyond its natural significance, the territory carries a layered cultural heritage, including historic towns, Iberian settlements, rock art sites inscribed as World Heritage, and memories of the Battle of the Ebro during the Spanish Civil War.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
