Ukerabagh Island Nature Reserve

Ukerabagh Island Nature Reserve is a 125-hectare protected river island located at the mouth of the Tweed River in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, eastern Australia. The reserve sits close to Tweed Heads, near the point where the New South Wales and Queensland border meets the coast, and is managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. The landscape is defined by tidal estuarine conditions, with mangrove forests fringing the island and small patches of littoral rainforest surviving on higher ground. These habitats make the island an important refuge for coastal birds in a region where natural shoreline habitat has been heavily altered. Beyond its ecological role, the reserve also holds strong cultural significance. The area has a long history of connection to the Minjungbal people, the traditional custodians of the broader Tweed district, and later served as a designated Aboriginal reserve during the early twentieth century.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
