Víno Natural Monument

Víno Natural Monument is a small protected area in the Hradec Králové District of eastern Bohemia, in the Czech Republic. It covers an isolated forest complex on the western edge of the village of Převýšov, roughly three kilometers from Chlumec nad Cidlinou, and its boundary coincides exactly with the outline of that woodland. The site was declared a natural monument in 2013 by the Regional Authority of the Hradec Králové Region. Its core purpose is the conservation of ancient broadleaf forest habitat, in particular old oaks and hornbeams left to age and decay naturally, together with the deadwood and stump structures that such trees produce. The forest is best known for sustaining a stable population of the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus), a strongly threatened beetle species in Central Europe. Beyond its entomological importance, Víno is recognized as a botanically rich relict woodland, hosting close to three hundred recorded species of higher plants, including a small group of legally protected species and a wider set of plants listed on the IUCN Red List.
