Wdecki Landscape Park
Wdecki Landscape Park is a protected landscape area in northern Poland, located entirely within Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. It sits in the central-eastern part of the Bory Tucholskie forest complex, a vast region of sandy outwash plains and post-glacial lakes. The park follows the drainage basin of the Wda river and its tributaries, blending extensive pine forests with a network of lakes, peatlands, and wetland floodplains.
The park was created relatively recently, in 1993, to safeguard the landscape and ecological character of this part of Bory Tucholskie. Forests cover roughly seventy percent of its area, while a pattern of lakes, river valleys, raised bogs, and spring-fed mires shapes the remainder. Its ecological richness, including rare plant relict species, abundant birdlife, and a network of strictly protected nature reserves, makes it a significant conservation area within the broader Tuchola Forest region.
Beyond its natural value, the park functions as an important destination for water-based recreation, hiking, and cycling, thanks to the Wda river and its chain of reservoirs and lakes. It is one of many Polish landscape parks, the country has, but stands out for combining a strongly forested character with a well-developed network of rivers and post-glacial lakes shaped by early twentieth-century water management.
