Biebrzański Park Narodowy Geographic Profile: Mapped Boundaries and Landscape Features
This geographic profile details the physical scope and environmental structure of Biebrzański Park Narodowy located within Poland's Podlaskie Voivodeship. Explore the 592.23 square kilometer lowland domain through mapped river networks, expansive peatland habitats, and identified natural landmarks.

Poland's largest national park, protecting one of Europe's last great lowland peatland systems.
Biebrza National Park
Biebrza National Park is the largest national park in Poland, situated in the Podlaskie Voivodeship in the northeast of the country. It stretches along almost the entire course of the slow-meandering Biebrza River, from the mouth of the Niedźwiedzica tributary down to where the Biebrza flows into the Narew. The park safeguards one of the largest surviving complexes of lowland peatlands (torfowiska niskie) in Central Europe, an ecosystem type that has been almost entirely lost elsewhere on the continent. The protected landscape is overwhelmingly shaped by water: vast sedge and reed marshes, raised bogs, floodplain meadows, dystrophic peat pools, riparian alder carrs, and fragments of boggy birch and willow woodland. These wet habitats support a remarkable concentration of birds, including boreal and tundra-associated species that breed here far south of their main range, as well as the most important Polish refuge for the Eurasian elk. Beyond its ecological value, the park carries a layered cultural and military history, with the ruins of the nineteenth-century Osowiec Fortress within its borders, a programme of educational nature trails, and long-established traditions of river-based exploration and wildlife observation.
