Established originally as Cleland Conservation Park in 1945 and upgraded to national park status in November 2021 through merger with the adjacent Eurilla Conservation Park, the reserve covers 1,036 hectares of diverse bushland terrain. The park is classified as an IUCN Category II protected area, combining ecosystem conservation with recreational use, and is managed under South Australia's National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972. The area holds significant ecological value as it contains some of the last intact swamps and bogs remaining in the Mount Lofty Ranges, providing critical habitat for endangered and endemic species.
