The area is administered by the U.S. Forest Service through the Dillon and Holy Cross Ranger Districts and offers about 180 miles of trails. Its elevation range, anchored by summits such as Mount Powell and Eagles Nest peak, gives the wilderness a strongly alpine character with long winters and short, mild summers.
