A small river-valley protected landscape in Płock, sheltering rare lowland flora and unusually rich birds.

Jar rzeki Brzeźnicy

Jar rzeki Brzeźnicy is a small protected landscape complex, or zespół przyrodniczo-krajobrazowy, located within the city of Płock in the Mazovian Voivodeship of central Poland. It protects a narrow, steep-sided valley carved by the Brzeźnica stream, along with the edge of the surrounding valley scarp and adjacent land, including meadows, scrub, old orchards, allotment gardens, and degraded areas shaped by past human activity. Despite its compact size, the protected area combines a surprising variety of habitats in close proximity: riverside alder and willow galleries, mature deciduous woodland on the slopes, dry and unmanaged meadows, ruderal vegetation on abandoned plots, sandy bars along the watercourse, and ornamental plantings near human settlements. This mosaic supports a notable community of breeding and foraging birds, as well as a recorded population of at least 27 mammal species. The reserve stands out regionally because of the presence of the fat dormouse (popielica szara), a rare and protected rodent for which this site represents the only known station in central Poland. Together with its birdlife and habitat diversity, this rarity gives the protected area real significance for local biodiversity and makes it an important green corridor within the urban fabric of Płock.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
