Jip Jip Conservation Park

Jip Jip Conservation Park is a small protected area in the south-east of South Australia, located in the locality of Marcollat roughly halfway between Adelaide and the coast at Kingston SE. Originally proclaimed as Jip Jip National Park in 1967 and reconstituted as a conservation park in 1972, it was created specifically to safeguard a cluster of granite outcrops known locally as Jip Jip Rocks that were the subject of extended public debate about their protection. The park sits within the broader Padthaway Rise landscape, where rounded inselbergs rise out of sandy swales and ridges carrying low open eucalypt forest and patches of open heath. Although compact, the reserve supports a notable plant community that includes a regionally rare fern, more than sixty recorded bird species, and at least one uncommon small marsupial. Despite its modest size of around 1.4 square kilometres, Jip Jip Conservation Park has attracted interest well beyond its footprint because of the way its granitic formations, native vegetation, and wildlife come together in a single accessible setting. It remains an important local landmark, a recognised natural monument on the South Australian reserve system, and a quiet destination for picnicking, walking, and natural history observation.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
