Marinduque Wildlife Sanctuary

Marinduque Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected natural area located in the central interior of Marinduque Island, an island province in the Philippines. Designated in 2004 under Presidential Proclamation 696 and incorporated into the country's NIPAS protected-area framework, the sanctuary covers roughly 8,800 hectares of rolling, forested terrain sitting north of the dormant volcano Mount Malindig. The reserve spans parts of five municipalities, including Boac, Gasan, Buenavista, Santa Cruz, and Torrijos, and protects habitat for several species endemic to the Philippines. Among its most notable residents are the Philippine Duck, the Luzon Spatulschwanzpapagei (a parrot species), and the Philippine Cockatoo, alongside indigenous mammals and amphibians found only on Marinduque and surrounding islands. Because the area lies inland without paved road access, the sanctuary remains one of the more isolated protected landscapes in the MIMAROPA region. Its biological importance is heightened by the broader recognition of Marinduque as a Key Biodiversity Area, and the sanctuary plays a quiet but meaningful role in conserving forest habitat in a heavily populated island setting.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
