Mount Timpanogos Wilderness

Mount Timpanogos Wilderness is a protected wilderness area in the central Wasatch Range of northern Utah, United States. Covering roughly 10,500 acres of high Wasatch terrain, the wilderness surrounds Mount Timpanogos, one of the most recognizable peaks in the state, and lies within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest in northeastern Utah County. The wilderness is bounded by American Fork Canyon to the north and Provo Canyon to the south, and it sits in close proximity to the densely populated Wasatch Front communities of Provo and Salt Lake City. Because of this easy access, it is one of the more heavily visited wilderness areas in Utah, while still preserving alpine forests, subalpine basins, glacial cirques, and the rugged slopes of the Timpanogos massif. Mount Timpanogos Wilderness is valued less for its sheer size than for its scenic and ecological concentration: a single dominant peak rises above forested canyons, stands of aspen and conifer, small alpine lakes like Emerald Lake, and habitat for Rocky Mountain goats, mule deer, elk, and black bear. Established in 1984, it represents a key piece of the National Wilderness Preservation System in the heart of Utah's Wasatch.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
