Naturschutzgebiet Schwarzbachsystem mit Haberg und Krenkeltal

The Naturschutzgebiet Schwarzbachsystem mit Haberg und Krenkeltal is a protected nature reserve in the municipality of Kirchhundem in the Kreis Olpe district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It lies in the Sauerland region, west of the village of Rüspe, and extends along the Schwarzbach stream (a tributary of the Eder) and several of its side brooks, including the Meinscheidbach. The reserve covers several hundred hectares and is made up of six separate parcels, reaching east to the boundary with the Kreis Siegen-Wittgenstein. The area is valued for its near-natural, strongly branched lowland brook system and the mosaic of habitats surrounding it. Sloping spring mires, bog and swamp woodland, brookside alder floodplain forests, juniper heathland, matgrass swards, sedge fen communities and wet, moist and nutrient-poor grasslands all occur within its boundaries. The reserve is also recognized as a European Fauna-Flora-Habitat (FFH) site under the designation DE-4915-302. Beyond its landscape and habitat value, the protected area hosts a notable assemblage of rare species tied to clean, structured watercourses and old, undisturbed woodland, including sensitive fish, bats and breeding birds. A disused railway tunnel in the Krenkel-Schwarzbachtal area is an important winter roost for bats. The reserve combines hydrological, woodland and open land protection values typical of the more sheltered valleys of the Rothaargebirge foothills.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
