Réserve naturelle régionale des landes et marais de Glomel

The Réserve naturelle régionale des landes et marais de Glomel is a small regional nature reserve in central Brittany, in the Côtes-d'Armor department, set within the rural landscape of the Montagnes Noires. It protects one of the rare surviving complexes of wet and peaty heathland in the area, along with marshy meadows, bog woodland and acid-loving oak woodland, all of which represent habitats that have largely disappeared from lowland France. The reserve is composed of two separate sites about ten kilometers apart: the heathlands of Lan Bern in the north, lying along the historic Nantes to Brest canal, and the Magoar-Pen Vern wetland complex in the south, which follows the small Grazius stream. Because the habitats depend on traditional low-intensity management to remain open, the reserve also plays an active role in conservation grazing, cutting and educational use for visitors. Its scale is modest, covering around 108 hectares, but it concentrates an unusually rich botanical and faunal diversity for inland Brittany, including sphagnum bogs, sundews, Dartford warblers, European nightjars, otters and many rare invertebrates. It is therefore significant as a refuge for species and habitats that are otherwise under severe pressure in the surrounding agricultural landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
