Réserve naturelle régionale du réseau de landes atlantiques du Parc naturel régional Périgord-Limousin

The Réserve naturelle régionale du réseau de landes atlantiques du Parc naturel régional Périgord-Limousin is a small regional nature reserve located in the Haute-Vienne department, within the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of west-central France. Classified on 20 November 2015, the reserve covers roughly 40 hectares distributed across the communes of Bussière-Galant, Champagnac-la-Rivière, Champsac, Gorre, La Meyze, Saint-Bazile, Saint-Hilaire-les-Places, and Saint-Laurent-sur-Gorre. Rather than a single contiguous block, it functions as a network of protected sites that together represent the surviving Atlantic heathland habitat found inside the broader Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park. The reserve exists to safeguard a particular type of open, low-growing heathland ecosystem that belongs naturally to the moist Atlantic fringe of France but is increasingly rare in the Limousin interior. By grouping several separate sites into one formally designated nature reserve, the regional authorities have created a flexible tool for preserving scattered fragments of this habitat and the biodiversity that depends on it. The reserve is registered with the IUCN under Category IV (habitat and species management area) and is managed within the framework of the surrounding regional natural park. Although the protected area is modest in size, its ecological importance is shaped by the unusual character of Atlantic heathland appearing this far inland. The reserve is one of the regional mechanisms through which the Périgord-Limousin park protects characteristic open landscapes that are otherwise being lost to woodland encroachment, agricultural change, and land-use intensification across the Massif Central foothills.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
