Sobotín, domov důchodců

Sobotín – domov důchodců is a tiny Czech natural monument (přírodní památka) declared on 31 December 2013 by the Regional Authority of the Olomouc Region. With an area of only about 0.05 hectares and a very narrow elevation band near 410 meters, it is one of the smallest protected sites in the country, yet it carries significant ecological weight because it shelters a breeding colony of the lesser horseshoe bat. The protected space occupies the loft above the former laundry in the Diakonie care home complex in the central part of the village of Sobotín, in the Šumperk District of the Olomouc Region, near the small Merta river. Unusually for a national park dataset, the site's value is almost entirely zoological and confined to a single building cavity, which is precisely why it has been placed under formal protection. It is also simultaneously registered as a Site of Community Importance within the Natura 2000 network, linking the local Czech bat conservation effort to the wider European framework for protecting rare and endangered species.
