Spreeler Bachtal Nature Reserve

The Spreeler Bachtal Nature Reserve is a small protected area in the Bergisches Land region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, encompassing the broad valley floor and forested slopes of the Spreeler Bach stream. Covering approximately 21 hectares, the reserve straddles the boundary between the town of Radevormwald in the Oberbergischer Kreis and the neighboring municipality of Ennepetal in the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis, with the stream itself forming much of the dividing line. Its conservation value rests on a mosaic of near-natural stream habitats, wet and spring-influenced grasslands, alder-lined brook corridors, and extensive oak-beech forests that climb the slopes above the valley. The reserve lies just upstream of where the Spreeler Bach flows into the Wupper at the Beyenburger Stausee, embedding it in a wider network of protected valleys typical of the uplifted slate landscape of the Bergisches Land. Established as a nature reserve in 2019 under a regional landscape plan, Spreeler Bachtal represents the type of targeted, habitat-and-species-focused protection common to small German Naturschutzgebiete, IUCN Category IV. Its landscape combines traditional grassland use, low-intensity grazing, and long-established mixed deciduous woodland, creating refuges for amphibians, brook-dwelling birds, and characteristic wet meadow flora.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
