Área Natural de Manejo Integrado Humedales del Norte

Área Natural de Manejo Integrado Humedales del Norte is a departmental protected area in the lowlands of northern Santa Cruz, Bolivia, spanning the provinces of Ichilo, Guarayos, and Obispo Santistevan. Covering roughly 490,000 hectares, it protects a major portion of the Amazonian floodplain ecosystem, where seasonal flooding shapes forests, wetlands, and slow-moving rivers. The reserve was established in 2012 to preserve the environmental functions of this large wetland system, including climate and temperature regulation, wind patterns, and the hydrological cycle. It is administered by the Gobierno Autónomo Departamental de Santa Cruz and represents one of the most significant wetland conservation initiatives in the Bolivian lowlands outside the national park system. Recognition of the area's importance has grown steadily since its creation. Beginning in 2017, the departmental government began working toward inscription of the reserve as a Ramsar Site, the international designation for wetlands of global significance. Bolivia is the country with the largest cumulative area of Ramsar-designated wetlands in the world, and the inclusion of Humedales del Norte would reinforce that leadership in wetland conservation.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
