A small remnant of native vegetation on South Australia's Yorke Peninsula

Carribie Conservation Park

Carribie Conservation Park is a small protected area on the Yorke Peninsula of South Australia, situated near the locality of Corny Point and roughly 32 kilometres west of the town of Warooka. The park preserves two co-dominant native vegetation associations that are considered representative of the original plant communities of the region, a character that has become increasingly rare as most of the Yorke Peninsula has been cleared for agriculture and settlement. The park covers only about 19 hectares and sits on an undulating sandy plain. Its northern area supports a dense mallee scrub of Eucalyptus diversifolia, while the southern portion features a woodland of Casuarina stricta and Melaleuca lanceolata. Because of its modest size and setting within a largely cleared landscape, the park is valued as a surviving ecological reference site for the southern Yorke Peninsula. Originally proclaimed as a fauna reserve in 1968 under South Australian fauna conservation legislation, the area was reconstituted as a conservation park in 1972 under the National Parks and Wildlife Act. It is classified as an IUCN Category III protected area and was historically listed on the Register of the National Estate.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
