Couchy Creek Nature Reserve

Couchy Creek Nature Reserve is a protected nature reserve in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia. Covering about 217 hectares, it lies roughly 12 kilometres north west of Murwillumbah and only a few kilometres from the Queensland border in the far north east of the state. The reserve protects wet sclerophyll eucalyptus forest as well as patches of lowland rainforest that have become scarce across the broader landscape. It forms part of an important vegetation corridor, linking remaining forest fragments in a region that has otherwise been heavily cleared for agriculture and rural development. Couchy Creek is significant mainly for its conservation value. Ten threatened species have been recorded on the reserve, including rare rainforest trees such as the Crystal Creek Walnut and Davidsons Plum, making it a small but disproportionately important refuge for biodiversity in this part of eastern Australia.
