Jezioro Siedmiu Wysp Nature Reserve

Jezioro Siedmiu Wysp is a faunistic nature reserve in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship of northeastern Poland, situated along the Polish-Russian border in the gminas of Węgorzewo and Srokowo. The reserve surrounds Lake Oświn, also known as Lake Seven Islands, and protects an exceptionally rich mosaic of wetlands including peat bogs, reedbeds, floodplains, marshes, wet forests, and meadows. Established in 1956, the reserve was created specifically to preserve the natural breeding environment of waterbirds and marsh birds, a purpose that remains central to its identity today. Over time the protected area has been expanded several times and now covers a substantial landscape that also includes the valley of the Oświnka River as it flows from the lake toward the state border. The reserve is recognized internationally, listed under the Ramsar Convention for wetlands of global importance and integrated into the Natura 2000 network through both a Special Protection Area for birds and a Special Area of Conservation for habitats. It is also notable as the home of a semi-wild herd of konik polski horses, which are used to slow natural forest succession on former agricultural land.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
