Lac Saint-François National Wildlife Area

Lac Saint-François National Wildlife Area is one of Canada's federal National Wildlife Areas, located in the southwestern corner of Quebec near the Ontario border and the United States. The reserve sits along the southern shore of Lac Saint-François, a widening of the St. Lawrence River, and protects a remarkable freshwater wetland complex in a region that has otherwise lost much of its original marshland to drainage and agriculture. The area is internationally recognized for the ecological importance of its wetlands. It has held Ramsar Wetland of International Importance status since 1987 and is also a designated Migratory Bird Sanctuary and Important Bird Area, confirming its role as a key stopover and nesting habitat for waterfowl and many other bird species. Beyond its wetland borders, the reserve encompasses mixed forests, ridgelines, streams, and sections of shoreline along the St. Lawrence, creating a varied mosaic of habitats that support a high concentration of plant and animal species. Today it functions both as a protected ecological refuge and as a place for low-impact public discovery through a network of walking trails and water-based activities.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
