Little High Rock Canyon Wilderness

Little High Rock Canyon Wilderness is a small federal wilderness area in northern Nevada, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System. It lies in the High Rock country south of the High Rock Canyon Wilderness and west of the High Rock Lake Wilderness, within the broader landscape associated with the Black Rock-High Rock NCA and the historic emigrant trail complex of the Great Basin. The area is defined by a steep, narrow side canyon draining into the larger High Rock Canyon system, set against the surrounding basalt flats, sagebrush uplands, and playa edges of the northwestern Nevada desert. Although small, the wilderness preserves a distinct piece of rugged canyon terrain that contrasts with the open desert basins around it. Beyond its physical character, the canyon carries a layered human history, most famously as the site of a violent 1911 confrontation between the Northern Paiute band of Mike Daggett and a posse of stockmen. The wilderness was formally designated in 2000, placing this remote canyon under long-term federal protection.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
