Mount Grafton Wilderness

Mount Grafton Wilderness is a Bureau of Land Management wilderness area in eastern Nevada, covering roughly 78,754 acres across southern White Pine County and northern Lincoln County. The area is centered on 10,990-foot Mount Grafton, one of the higher peaks in the Schell Creek Range, and lies about 30 miles south of the town of Ely. The wilderness protects a varied mountain landscape shaped by forested ridges, canyons, and high elevation terrain. Its mix of forest types, including pinyon pine, juniper, aspen, limber pine, bristlecone pine, and white fir, supports a wide range of wildlife. The setting, roughly an hour's drive from the nearest settlement of Lund, retains a remote, high-desert character typical of Nevada's isolated mountain ranges. Designated as wilderness under U.S. federal land management in December 2006, Mount Grafton Wilderness provides a protected backdrop of contiguous forest and rock habitat. It is valued as much for its ecological integrity and wildlife habitat as for the dramatic scenery of the surrounding Great Basin landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
