Naturpark Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide

Naturpark Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide lies in the western part of the Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, one of the largest lake landscapes in northern Germany, in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The park spans the counties of Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, Rostock, and Ludwigslust-Parchim, and is framed by the small towns of Plau am See, Goldberg, Krakow am See, and Malchow. It is a wooded, lake-rich protected landscape shaped by the last Ice Age, with extensive sanders, glacial sand and gravel outwash plains, interspersed with moors, heath, clear lakes, and gently rolling forest. Its blend of large forest areas, sixty lakes, and quiet cultural landscapes makes it a representative example of the inland natural park concept of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The park is notable for its strong birdlife, including breeding white-tailed eagles and ospreys, and for the unusual presence of European bison being raised at the Damerower Werder peninsula. It was the first nature park to be formally designated in the newly reconstituted state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern after German reunification.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
