Prachov Rocks

Prachov Rocks is a sandstone rock formation in the Bohemian Paradise region of the Czech Republic, situated a few kilometers northwest of the town of Jičín. Geologically, the area consists of Cretaceous-era sedimentary rock laid down in a shallow sea and later carved by erosion into a dense network of towers, pinnacles, deep gorges, and panoramic viewpoints. It is a designated nature reserve and forms one of the most visited landmarks within the larger Český ráj Protected Landscape Area. The reserve is best known for its compact field of striking sandstone towers that rise directly out of forested terrain, combined with marked tourist circuits and a long tradition of rock climbing. The first documented mapping of the rocks dates to the late nineteenth century, and the area has been officially protected as a nature reserve since 1933. Beyond its natural value, Prachov Rocks sits on ground that carries deep human traces, from prehistoric settlement to medieval forts and nineteenth-century battles. Today the rocks draw an estimated 300,000 visitors per year, who come to walk through narrow rock corridors, climb established sandstone routes, and use elevated viewpoints to survey a landscape that has been a cultural fixture of northeastern Bohemia for centuries.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
