Sainte-Assise Heather Regional Nature Reserve

The Sainte-Assise Heather Regional Nature Reserve is a compact protected area in the Île-de-France region of northern France, occupying about 87 hectares within the department of Seine-et-Marne. It lies on the communes of Boissise-la-Bertrand and Seine-Port, occupying a segment of the broader natural setting south of Paris where stretches of lowland heathland and dry open habitats have survived close to the urban periphery. The reserve's identity is tied to its surprising persistence as a heather-dominated landscape, a habitat type that has become very rare in the Paris basin. Classified as a regional nature reserve in 2009 and managed by the Agence des espaces verts de la région d'Île-de-France, it protects a fragment of heathland that reflects the once more widespread open, sandy, acidic habitats of the area. Its presence amid the suburban arc around Paris gives it a particular conservation profile, serving as a small refuge for biodiversity within an otherwise heavily developed landscape. Although modest in size, the reserve is ecologically noteworthy because it preserves a habitat type conditioned by old rural land uses and acidic substrates that are scarce elsewhere in the region. Part of the perimeter also corresponds to the Sainte-Assise transmission site, characterized by numerous telecommunications antennas, making the site a juxtaposition of technical infrastructure and protected nature. The reserve contributes to the regional network of protected areas that seek to maintain representative examples of Île-de-France's rarer habitats.

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.
