Bois des Roches Regional Nature Reserve

The Bois des Roches Regional Nature Reserve is a small but ecologically rich protected area in the Indre department of central France, within the Centre-Val de Loire region. Covering roughly twelve hectares on the heights above the Creuse valley near the town of Le Blanc, the reserve protects a distinctive landscape of dry south-facing limestone cliffs interspersed with thermophilic oak woodland and relictual calcareous grasslands. The site sits at the meeting point of two biogeographic domains, the Atlantic and the continental, giving it unusual ecological character for its latitude. Its combination of cliffs, cavities, and open habitat has made it important for cave-dwelling fauna, particularly bats, and for thermophilic plant communities that are unusual this far north in France. The reserve is also valued for its archaeological heritage, with evidence of human occupation dating back to the Upper Paleolithic. Managed by the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels Centre-Val de Loire, it lies on the edge of the Parc naturel régional de la Brenne and near the Ramsar-listed wetland complex of Brenne, which strengthens its role as a node in regional ecological networks.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
