Polder de Sébastopol Regional Nature Reserve

The Polder de Sébastopol Regional Nature Reserve is a 133-hectare protected coastal wetland on the eastern shore of the Île de Noirmoutier, in the Vendée department of western France. It lies within the Pays de la Loire region and is administered by the Communauté de communes de l'Île-de-Noirmoutier, having been officially classified as a regional nature reserve on 11 February 2008. The reserve protects a stretch of reclaimed land that forms a long, narrow strip of brackish and freshwater habitats bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and an old sea dike. Its position, sitting approximately one metre above the highest tides, creates a mosaic of terrestrial, aquatic, and salt-influenced environments that support an exceptional variety of birds, plants, and invertebrates throughout the year. Recognised in 2017 as part of a nationally significant landscape together with the Passage du Gois and the Île de la Crosnière, the polder is considered a key stopover and breeding ground for waterbirds along the French Atlantic coast and is one of the most important wetland sites in the Vendée.

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.
