Věřňovice Natural Monument

Věřňovice is a small natural monument in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic, located less than a kilometer northwest of the village of Věřňovice, a local part of the municipality of Dolní Lutyně in the Karviná District. The protected area was established in 1989 and covers just over four hectares of a distinctive river terrace belonging to the Olše, the river that defines the border landscape between Czechia and Poland in this part of the country. The reason for protection is the combination of a naturally developed forest on the Olše terrace and the presence of protected plant and animal species. The woodland is a floodplain forest, wetter in some sections, drier in others, with a composition that has been partly altered by past plantings of non-native trees. Despite this, the site retains strong natural character and supports a notably rich population of snowdrops in spring. Administratively, Věřňovice is managed by the Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic and is catalogued as a natural monument, the country’s IUCN Category III designation for smaller, ecologically focused protected sites. Although modest in size, it contributes to the network of small protected areas that preserve remnants of natural floodplain habitats along the Olše.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
