Biotopo Monte Brione

Biotopo Monte Brione is a small protected natural area located on Monte Brione, a limestone promontory rising along the northern shore of Lake Garda in the province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy. Established in 1992 and later integrated into the Natura 2000 network, the biotope covers a compact area of rough Mediterranean-style terrain that contrasts strikingly with the surrounding Alpine landscapes of the region. The protected area is notable for the unusual ecological character it preserves this far north of the Mediterranean basin. Although situated in the Trentino region, Monte Brione supports sclerophyllous evergreen vegetation, Mediterranean shrubland, dry rocky habitats, and a bird community that includes several species otherwise absent from the rest of Trentino. This combination of southern flora, rocky cliffs overlooking the lake, and warm microclimate makes the biotope a distinct conservation site within northern Italy. Beyond its ecological value, Biotopo Monte Brione serves as a protected buffer between the lake and the more heavily developed lake-shore areas around Torbole and Riva del Garda. Its combination of rare Mediterranean plants, nesting birds of prey, and accessible trails makes it both a functional conservation site and a recognizable stop for visitors exploring the upper Lake Garda region.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
