Bohemian Paradise

Bohemian Paradise is a protected landscape area in the Czech Republic, located approximately 60 kilometers northeast of Prague. It is the country’s oldest large-scale protected area, established in 1955 as the first nature reserve in what was then Czechoslovakia. The region spans 181 square kilometers and encompasses three separate but interconnected areas characterized by dramatic sandstone rock formations, rolling forested hills, and a remarkable concentration of historic castles and chateaus. The park lies within the Jičín Uplands and extends into the Ještěd–Kozákov Ridge, with Kozákov at 744 meters being the highest point. Beyond its role as a protected area, Bohemian Paradise also functions as a UNESCO Global Geopark covering 830 square kilometers, the only such designation in the Czech Republic. The name translates literally from Czech as Czech Paradise, reflecting the region’s long-standing reputation for natural beauty and cultural richness.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
