Carcuma Conservation Park

Carcuma Conservation Park is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia, situated about 155 kilometres south-east of Adelaide and roughly 22 kilometres north-east of the small town of Coonalpyn. The park lies within the locality of Carcuma, on crown land in the Hundred of Carcuma, and is managed by the South Australian Department for Environment and Water. The reserve protects mallee heath vegetation that is considered representative of the original plant communities that once covered much of the surrounding region, alongside areas of open forest in depressions and on dune slopes. It is classified as an IUCN Category Ia protected area, reflecting its strict nature reserve status, and was formerly listed on the Register of the National Estate. Originally proclaimed as Carcuma National Park in 1969 under the National Parks Act 1966, the area was reconstituted as a conservation park in 1972 when the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972 came into effect, placing it within the modern South Australian protected area framework.
